Research, Prototype, Interactive App Design Proposal
Orbit is a digital platform designed to support college students in building confidence around cooking affordable, healthy meals with locally accessible ingredients. Born out of first-hand experience and community research, the project focuses on the real-world challenges faced by students learning to live, and eat, independently. Through a minimalist mobile interface and promotional campaign, Orbit fosters connection between users by allowing them to share recipes, ingredient prices, and cooking tips specific to their area. Developed to work in collaboration with BGSU’s Teaching Kitchen and local students, Orbit aims to reduce the stress of meal planning through community-driven design. With its clean interface and warm, natural color palette, Orbit puts the spotlight on shared knowledge and local food culture, creating a digital space where community, collaboration, and nutrition orbit around each other.
Strategy
Orbit was built to empower students through a community-driven approach to healthy, affordable cooking. The app’s branding is intentionally minimalist, allowing shared content to take center stage while creating an inviting, low-pressure environment. The logo draws inspiration from contemporary digital food platforms, using a soft, natural palette influenced by services like Instacart. The name Orbit reflects how recipes, resources, and local insights revolve around one another, creating a dynamic system where food, community, and collaboration stay in constant motion.

The app allows students to post affordable, healthy meals, track grocery deals, and collaborate with others facing similar challenges. With a clean interface and community-driven content, Orbit turns everyday, sometimes overwhelming, cooking into a shared, empowering experience.
